CIMAM Annual Conference

CIMAM annual conference at Tate Modern, London. The conference is convened around the title Contemporary Institutions; between Public and Private.

The public space as an autonomous place appears to be in crisis. It has evolved from a site where difference was embraced or confronted to a site of consensus. This new culture of compromise is associated with the co-opting of public space by the claims of media and sponsorship and is due in large part to the growing importance of the commodity and spectacular consumption in our contemporary societies.

property rights that subsist in materials stored in public museums and archives. Screen
Tests explores this conflict, while enriching rather than depleting the public domain.
