ArtLife is a new project for Bert de Leenheer & Dirk Vanhecke of Gallery Transit, almost a decade after our last Contents.

Responding to an invitation from Bert de Leenheer and Dirk Vanhecke to develop an exhibition, and knowing that the gallerists were keen photographers, we asked for access to all the photographs taken by the gallerists in the last 8 years; the moment when they begun using a digital camera. After looking through some 10 000 images, documenting the gallerists’ involvement in all facets of the art world - trips to biennales, art fairs, visits to museum and contemporary exhibitions, as well as artists studios, dinners with collectors, and endless travels to many cities, we have presented 30 beautiful framed images. A portrait of of people looking at, and being looked at looking at art, has emerged.

ArtLife reverses the traditional expectations of the relationship between artist and gallerist; the gallerists have become a creative source for the exhibition.

ArtLife coincides with Parade our contribution to Contour the 3rd Video Art Biennale in Mechelen, Belgium.
